In a mix of microfinance and information technology, a branch of Myanmar-based BC Finance Ltd. will work with a Japanese IT firm to cut information system costs and free up more money for loans to low-income borrowers.
The microfinance company will begin an experiment in June with Infoteria Corp. to reduce the considerable expenses of operating its information systems and branches. If these costs can be reduced, more small-lot loans can be extended to help meet the growing demand.
